  1. I do not want to be too negative but I really don't follow what all is going on here. Is lighting matches a regular thing for him. And in the second picture I have no idea what he is doing. I do like the framing of your pictures, they are not just straight on you worked on placement.

  2. Typically with photojournalism you want to be straight on...so I would encourage all of your images to be easy to read (not tilted). The tilted on is blurry so you should take it out of your series. Photojournalism needs to tell a story that viewers understand. Your images tell as story of sadness (later you told us he was sick which makes sense)...but what do matches tell us about his life? Does he smoke? If so show the cigarette. Is he lighting a candle? Show the candle. Give symbols to the viewer to make it easy to understand.

Hang in there and keep working through your images Ryan. I know you are limited with your camera, so you really have to push the meaning as well as the composition of each image.

  3. The dude seems like he has a pretty chill life and you were able to capture that and show that to the viewer.

  4. I think that the first picture is the most successful out of all of these. It is intriguing since we don't know exactly what he is doing (although that may not be best for photojournalism it still creates an interesting pic) the black and white gives the flame a cool effect so good choice.
